I don’t remember much of what my life was like before… well… yesterday. But one thing I remember vividly was a book. More specifically…
Where The Wild Things Are.
It was pretty comforting as a kid to read this book. It made me feel not as crazy for thinking I am a robot, Sayian, lion, dinosaur or whatever the hell I wanted to be that wasn’t myself. And when you see a kid in monster pajamas wearing a crown terrorizing his parents, it makes you feel a little better about spiking your hair and yelling KAHMAYAMAYA KAH! when throwing snow at your sister.
When I got news that they were making a movie about the book with director Spike Jonze (who did music videos for everyone from Tenacious D to Daft Punk) I wept. Mostly because I’m a pessimistic cynical bastard who lost all faith in the movie industry since Michael Bay raped Transformers.
Man It feels good to be wrong sometimes.
The trailer for the movie looks so fucking brilliant I cant wait to see it. He wasn’t scared to make it a little cheesy, this is a childs’ imagination after all. The monsters have the feel of the old 80s Jim Henson movies and the visual style is real, not HYPEREAL. Add a little bit of Arcade Fire and I am sold.
